Food-delivery startup Amigo has raised ₹4.5 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Foxhog Ventures, while simultaneously launching its services in Kolkata. The launch marks the company’s entry into one of India’s largest and most competitive food-delivery markets.

Founded by Kolkata-based entrepreneurs Anshuk and Saswat, Amigo has been established with the objective of making fresh, quality food more affordable and accessible to customers. The startup intends to build a customer-focused food-delivery platform supported by efficient operations, dependable service and technology-enabled order management.

The newly raised capital will be deployed across the company’s core business functions. A significant portion of the funding will be used to strengthen Amigo’s operational capabilities in Kolkata, improve its technology infrastructure, build its delivery and restaurant-partner network and enhance the overall customer experience.

The company also plans to use the funding to prepare for expansion into additional markets across India. Its growth strategy will initially focus on establishing a strong operational foundation in Kolkata, understanding local customer preferences and developing a scalable model that can subsequently be introduced in other cities.

Building an Affordable and Reliable Food-Delivery Platform

India’s food-delivery industry has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by increasing smartphone usage, changing consumer lifestyles and the growing preference for convenient access to meals.

However, customers continue to seek greater affordability, better food quality, reliable delivery and a more consistent ordering experience. Amigo aims to address these requirements by developing a platform that balances price, quality and convenience.

The company’s proposition is centered on delivering fresh and quality food at competitive prices. Amigo plans to collaborate with restaurants, food businesses and delivery partners while using technology to improve order processing, delivery coordination and customer support.

As part of its Kolkata rollout, the startup will focus on building relationships with local food establishments and understanding the requirements of customers across different neighborhoods. The company believes that a locally informed approach will allow it to provide a more relevant and dependable service.

A Milestone-Based Investment

Foxhog Ventures’ investment in Amigo will follow a milestone-based structure. The approach is intended to support the startup’s growth while maintaining a clear focus on execution, operational performance and sustainable expansion.

Commenting on the investment, Tarun Poddar, CEO of Foxhog Ventures, said:

“Our investment in Amigo is structured around defined business and operational milestones. We believe that visionary and committed entrepreneurs such as Anshuk and Saswat have the ability to build meaningful companies. We are hopeful that Amigo will emerge as one of Foxhog’s promising investments as the founders execute their vision and expand the business responsibly.”

Foxhog Ventures will support Amigo not only through capital but also through strategic guidance, business planning and growth support. The investment firm is expected to work closely with the founders as they strengthen the company’s operations and prepare it for expansion.

The funding reflects Foxhog Ventures’ continued interest in supporting early-stage businesses that are addressing large consumer markets with scalable and technology-enabled models.

Strengthening Technology and Operations

Technology will remain an important component of Amigo’s development strategy. The company intends to enhance its platform to provide customers with a simple and efficient ordering experience while enabling restaurant and delivery partners to manage orders more effectively.

The planned technology investments may include improvements in:

Alongside technology development, Amigo will invest in building reliable operational processes. The company will focus on order accuracy, delivery efficiency, food quality and responsive customer service as it expands its presence in Kolkata.

The founders believe that long-term growth in food delivery requires more than rapid customer acquisition. It also requires strong relationships with restaurants, a dependable delivery network, disciplined cost management and a clear understanding of customer behavior.

Preparing for Expansion Across India

Following the Kolkata launch, Amigo plans to evaluate opportunities in other Indian cities. Its expansion will be undertaken in phases and will depend on the company’s performance, customer response and completion of agreed operational milestones.

The company expects to use the experience gained in Kolkata to refine its technology, strengthen its unit economics and create a replicable operating model. This phased approach is intended to allow Amigo to grow in a disciplined manner while maintaining service quality.

As the company enters new markets, it plans to adapt its offerings to local food preferences and consumer requirements rather than adopting a uniform approach across every city.

Competing Through Affordability, Quality and Local Understanding

India’s food-delivery market is currently led by established platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy. Amigo will enter the sector as an emerging participant with a focus on affordability, food quality and local-market understanding.

Rather than attempting to compete solely through discounts, the startup aims to create value through operational efficiency, relevant restaurant partnerships and an improved experience for customers and business partners.

Amigo’s immediate priority will be to establish a dependable presence in Kolkata. The company intends to focus on customer satisfaction and repeat usage while developing the systems required for long-term expansion.

With fresh capital, strategic support from Foxhog Ventures and an initial base in Kolkata, Amigo is preparing to build its presence in India’s expanding food-delivery ecosystem.
